Dr. Yokoyama has many interests. In addition to her passion for the arts and food she loves to travel. Last spring Dr. Y had the chance to visit China. This summer’s Olympic Games held in Beijing and the spectacular opening ceremonies amazed the world of China’s potential as a nation. She would like to share a few photographs from her travels. Photos of the Great Wall do not do it justice. When you consider it took more than 100 years to build and cost many lives it is only when you can touch and walk on this structure built centuries ago that you truly appreciate the engineering and what an amazing feat it was to build. Even more so, that it still stands. It was a great experience and one that she will remember fondly.

I chose to walk a more remote, less maintained section of the Great Wall from Jinshanling to Simatai. The weather conditions were challenging. With strong winds and 100 degree heat it took three hours to complete the 10km walk. As you can see, some of the terrain was very steep and rugged.

Here Dr. Yokoyama stands inside one of the guard towers built along the Great Wall between Jinshanling section and the Simatai section. As you can see, the Great Wall continues on outside the window of the guard tower.

Also, remember to come and visit our office to see art work by Fumiko Kimura, Collage Artist featured in Tacoma City Arts magazine.
